The Evolution of
an Effective Outsourced Solution
Is Outsourcing a Cost
Effective Option?
Facing an
increasingly complex and competitive market environment, the
management of Atlas Industrial Holdings identified Information
Technology as one of the core competencies through which the company
might carve out a competitive advantage. To achieve their objectives,
they realized they needed an impartial, 360º view of their current IT
operations. They would further require a better managerial
understanding of areas that could benefit from immediate attention, as
well as a targeted plan providing benchmarks for ongoing improvements.
After
interviewing PC On Call and several other providers, Atlas selected PC
On Call to complete an analysis of their network and provide
outsourced solutions. Their decision was based in part upon the
initial PC On Call recommendations, which included a complete On Call
CheckUp to provide accurate documentation of the network.
Analysis,
Documentation and Action
Upon
completion of the On Call CheckUp, PCOC engineers delivered the
network documentation that would enable Atlas management to
confidently proceed towards a comprehensive IT enhancement initiative.
In addition, technicians identified several existing problem areas:
-
Information backup procedures and equipment were inadequate,
incompatible and unable to predictably provide backup/disaster
recovery of critical company information.
-
Inconsistent and/or outdated software operating systems across the
network causing incompatibilities and system instability.
-
The
company's network was relying on the weaker of two Windows-based
system servers for primary functions.
-
The
network lacked any firewall and virus protection.
-
Inability
to perform self-auditing procedures to insure compliance with
federally-mandated software licensing regulations.
The assigned
PCOC technicians proposed and completed repairs, upgrades and the
installation of requisite hardware/software to correct each of these
problems:
-
The
primary server was switched to take advantage of the stronger
server's performance.
-
A new
company-wide backup system with assured redundancy was installed.
-
A SoHo
firewall and system-wide Norton Corporate virus protection were
installed.
-
A uniform
Windows 2000 operating system was installed across the network.
-
A
licensing audit was performed and technicians set
management-approved parameters for future software installation.
"PC On Call combines the
personal service and attention I demand of an in-house employee with
the skills and knowledge base of a large organization. PC On Call is
the best solution I have found in my 25 years leading medium-sized
companies. They have answered a market need... not technical
double-speak, but rather solid business solutions"

Positioned
for Growth with an IT Partner™
Based on PC
On Call's performance - and their thorough understanding and
enhancement of Atlas' IT infrastructure - Atlas made the decision to
turn over their network management entirely to PC On Call. During
their regularly scheduled visits, the PC On Call technician now also
conducts regular self compliance audits and adjust licenses
accordingly - one of Atlas' management's original primary objectives.
During the
course of the initial IT Partner program, Atlas management and PC On
Call identified additional needs to further improve performance of
their network, which led to an increase of PC On Call's IT Partner
service program from 48 to 64 hours per month.
